How Are Your Customers Finding You?

By Gary on March 19, 2010

If you’re over 40 and run a small business, this post is for you.

Do you know how new customers are finding you these days?

Let me tell a story of how I can to become a customer of a couple local businesses in my area in the past couple of months.

A few months ago my car stopped running.  I knew I needed a tow truck because getting this thing again simply wasn’t going to happen.

I didn’t have anyone in mind off the top of my head so I simply grabbed my Smartphone and did a search for towing.  Up popped a map of all the repair shops in my area that offered towing.  It also showed customer reviews so I could see if I really wanted them working on my car.

So I clicked on a repair shop that looked to be nearby that had good reviews and they came and towed my car and got it fixed quickly.  I spent the entire tow truck ride back to my home explaining just how I found his shop.

People Aren’t Using The Yellow Pages Anymore To Find You

Another example…

About a month ago I started my car and then got back out to I could scrape the snow off the car.  I wasn’t thinking and locked the door and while my other vehicle has the auto unlock feature, this one does not.  So I locked my keys in a running car.

Fortunately, I had my phone in my pocket so I quickly looked up a locksmith using the same procedure I did when I needed a tow… and again I spent most of the time explaining to him how I came to find his business.

Let me ask you this – is your business getting those customers who are absolutely going to spend money with you right now?  Do you know how to get your business in position to get them?

If not or if you’re not sure, we need to talk.
